Biography
Stephanie Harris-Byers

A twenty-year veteran of the entertainment industry, Stephanie Harris-Byers created and operated her own full-service, 60,000 sq. ft. production facility located in the heart of South Central Los Angeles known as STUDIO 54 AND MORE, while maintaining her producing shingle NEW SHOES ENTERTAINMENT.  A literary management and production company representing writers and directors in all areas of film, television, theater and publishing, New Shoes Entertainment’s management style is different in that “a hands on approach” is given to writers in the developmental process, assisting them in the craft of story, character and content.

More recently this year 2008, she signed on as the west coast Author and New Business Development representative for Harlem Book Fair Books.  HBF Books is a DIY, self-publishing model that’s revolutionizing the industry.  The ability to give new voices a chance to be heard that would otherwise be ignored by the traditional literary world is our offer. “Together with Max Rodriguez president/founder of both the Harlem Book Fair and Quarterly Black Review Magazine we will use these platforms (80,000 attendees and 40,000+ subscribers respectively) to market and promote our authors.”

Mrs. Harris-Byers began her career working in film and television development for Harpo Films, an Oprah Winfrey company in 1993.  “Working for Harpo was a great experience.  My tenure there exposed me to a lot of talented writers, directors and actors, it was only natural that I parlay my skills into management, production and now publishing.”

The theatrical piece, “Pandora’s Trunk” written by Blaine Teamer was her freshman stage production in March 2003 which starred Kim Fields.  The play was invited to the prestigious National Black Theater Festival in August 2003 and again in August 2005.

Stephanie came to Los Angeles in 1988 after graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Telecommunications and is a native of Buffalo, New York.  She is married to Scott Byers, a former professional football player and coach; they have an eight-year old son, Benjamin Ross.
